Welcome to the Land of Oz Written by: Carolyn Hileman I don’t know about you but I feel like I have just woke up in some sort of bad fairy tale, we have democrats out singing the praises of illegal immigrants and republicans desperately looking for courage. We have high gas prices simply because we must protect the owls and other cute furry creatures at our expense, the one place in America that pushes hard to save us money is maligned and constantly under bombardment and we all know who that is. I don’t like to harp on the democrats but the simple fact of the matter is any time you see something that is costing the American people double it usually has the democratic parties name on it somewhere. While I must agree that the republicans can be stupid and weak they still do not actively set out to hurt you and me the tax payer. The Democratic Party is for rights, anyone else’s but ours, just take a look at what they are for, they are for the rights of the poor immigrant workers, not the ones here legally but those who are here illegally and are draining health care services for those who are here legally and need their help. They are for protecting rights, not those of humans but those cute little fuzzy creatures and a few that aren’t so cute as well. They would rather you and I pay $3.00 a gallon for gas or more rather than disturb those animals habitat, to hell with our habitat, they can always blame that on the big oil companies who by the way provide jobs so that people can afford the gas that they must charge that much for to appease the unions and get their people insurance and pay raises when ever the union says they must. That is another thing the unions, the largest legal mafia in the world, they can walk into your business and tell you how to run it and they can do it legally. Anyone else tried that they would be on trial for extortion but since they are backed by the Democratic Party they can do it legally, kind of like the illegal immigrants are not really illegal immigrants they are just undocumented workers, the unions are not well funded mafia they are simply a small group that is for workers rights. Today when you stop for gas just remember that you are protecting the animals, the animals that are standing in the way of our drilling in America and being able to be energy efficient, which is something else interesting do any of you remember eminent domain? You know the liberal backed land grab, they can take our home if they decide they can get more taxes from someone else but they can’t take the homes of these animals so that we can drill our own oil. Now you tell me we are not living in the land of oz, illegal is no longer illegal, immanent domain can only be used to take property from humans for the common good, not from animals standing in the way of energy independence and companies that provide jobs like Wal-Mart are under attack daily because they will not bend over for the unions. Let me explain a little about how the unions work, they force their way into your company, they force you to pay your employees what they think is a fair wage, they force you to provide insurance, day care, days off and anything else they can get away with. Now when your company finishes paying all of these demands you must raise your price in order to be profitable, you raise your price to be profitable and you are no longer competitive, when you are no longer competitive you go out of business or lay off tons of workers. The unions just pick up and go to the next company and drag them down as well. All of the things we just discussed are Democratic Party favorites, the union, the environment, and the illegal immigrants, interesting isn’t it that a party who constantly says over and over that they are for the working people are the very ones who are against us. Who Asked For A Compromise? You probably woke up last week to the news that a "compromise" to the McCain-Kennedy "scamnesty" bill was in the works -- a compromise that NO ONE asked for. And it may shock you to find out about some of the hidden time bombs that were tucked-away in this so-called compromise. Here's what Kris Kobach wrote in a piece published by the New York Post : Like that surprise hidden on page 302 - which would replace the country's entire bench of experienced immigration judges with pro-immigration advocates. With a few exceptions, today's immigration judges (who serve for life) are dedicated to enforcing the law, and they do a difficult job well. This bill forces all immigration judges to step down after serving seven years - and restricts replacements to attorneys with at least five years' experience practicing immigration law. Virtually the only lawyers who'll meet that requirement are attorneys who represent aliens in the immigration courts - who tend to be some of the nation's most liberal lawyers, and who are certainly unlikely as a class to be fond of enforcing immigration laws. It gets worse. Immigration judges are now appointed by the attorney general - whose job it is to see to it that laws are enforced. The Senate bill gives that power to a separate bureaucrat, albeit one directly appointed by the president, making immigration courts more susceptible to leftward polarization. Can you believe it -- immigration courts presided over by judges who spent at least five years of their legislative careers defending illegal aliens? Let's send our Senators a clear message. Consider the amendment offered by Illinois liberal Dick Durbin: This amendment repeals a 1996 law that prohibits state universities from offering in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens. Also included is a provision that gives amnesty to nine states that have been flouting the law. In other words, if a young person in Indiana wants to attend a university in California -- say UCLA -- he or she MUST pay an out-of-state tuition rate but an illegal alien is "entitled" to pay an in-state tuition rate. Of course, such a provision just adds insult to injury for the people of California. According to the Sierra Times, illegal aliens already siphon off over $7,700,000,000.00 (that's 7.7 billion) from the public education system. That doesn't sound like "compromise" legislation to me. But Here's The Biggest Cut Of All But here's the biggest cut of all! This so-called "compromise" was not really a compromise at all. Simply put, this Senate compromise opened a path to citizenship to illegal aliens who could provide documentation to show that they have lived and worked in the United States for a certain period of time. What's wrong with that? Here's what Congressman Tom Tancredo said: "The Senate deal asks people who have broken the law for years - often using fraudulent documents - to provide proof that they've lived here. I can guarantee that many of those fraudulent documents - which law enforcement hasn't been able to detect yet - will be used to obtain legal status." Tancredo is right! In fact, conservative columnist Linda Chavez noted that millions of illegal aliens currently pay into the Social Security system using fraudulent Social Security cards and that in 2002 alone, the Social Security Administration reported it had collected $7 billion in payroll taxes and $1.5 billion in Medicare taxes from workers who could not be matched with valid Social Security numbers. And that nasty little revelation brings us to what is most lacking in most of the Senate immigration proposals introduced thus far: Here's what Kris Koback wrote in the article referenced earlier: The third nasty surprise lies in what the bill fails to do. The measure envisions a massive amnesty for illegal aliens now in the country - but doesn't give the Citizenship and Immigration Service (CIS) the personnel or infrastructure to implement the amnesty. In March, the General Accounting Office (GAO) issued a scathing report on the CIS's inability to effectively detect immigration fraud. The last time we enacted a major amnesty, in 1986, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (the CIS's predecessor agency) processed some 3 million amnesty applications from illegal aliens. It found 398,000 cases of fraud - and missed thousands more. Now CIS may have to implement an amnesty four times larger. Yet CIS already faces a backlog of several million applications for immigration benefits. And the GAO found that CIS managers pressure staff into "meeting production goals" by approving applications quickly - which means that fraud goes undetected. Adding millions of amnesty applications can only make things worse. And the latest Senate "compromise" - giving immediate amnesty only to aliens who've been in the country for five years or more - makes the process even more complex and fraud-prone, as illegals use fake documents to "prove" long-term residence. In 1986, the terrorist Mahmud "The Red" Abouhalima fraudulently got amnesty as a seasonal agricultural worker (in fact, he was a New York cabbie). That status allowed him to travel to Afghanistan for terrorist training - which he later used as one of the 1993 World Trade Center bombers. Terrorists know how to game the system. Janice Kephart, former counsel to the 9/11 Commission, released a study last year on how easily terrorists obtain immigration benefits. Of 94 alien terrorists in the United States, she found that 59 were successful immigration frauds. That includes six of the 9/11 hijackers. The Senate bill does nothing to address this problem - while throwing a massive new load on the bureaucracy. A new amnesty will almost certainly ensure that more terrorists gain the legal right to walk our streets. What's the bottom line? Simply put, legislation which does not specifically allocate funds to implement and enforce the provisions of the legislation is not worth the paper on which it is printed. Our elected leaders know this and now you know it. Our mission is clear. We need to make our Senators aware that the American people want secure borders and NO blanket amnesty. And we need to drive that message home. Let's get to work! ONE Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. "We don't have half dozen nuggets," said the teenager at the counter. "You don't?" I replied. "We only have six, nine, or twelve," was the reply. "So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?" "That's right." So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets TWO I was checking out at the local Wal-Mart with just a few items and the lady behind me put her things on the belt close to mine. I picked up one of those "dividers" that they keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn't get mixed. After the girl had scanned all of my items, she picked up the "divider", looking it all over for the bar code so she could scan it. Not finding the bar code she said to me, "Do you know how much this is?" I said to her "I've changed my mind, I don't think I'll buy that today." She said "OK," and I paid her for the things and left. She had no clue what had just happened. THREE A lady at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and pulling it out very quickly. When I inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM "thingy." FOUR I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. "Do you need some help?" I asked. She replied, "I knew I should have replaced the battery to this remote door unlocker. Now I can't get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a battery to fit this?" "Hmmm, I dunno. Do you have an alarm, too?" I asked. "No, just this remote thingy," she answered, handing it and the car keys to me. As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, "Why don't you drive over there and check about the batteries. It's a long walk." FIVE Several years ago, we had an Intern who was none too swift. One day she was typing and turned to a secretary and said, "I'm almost out of typing paper. What do I do?" "Just use copier machine paper," the secretary told her With that, the intern took her last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five "blank" copies. SIX I was in a car dealership a while ago, when a large motor home was towed into the garage. The front of the vehicle was in dire need of repair and the whole thing generally looked like an extra in "Twister." I asked the manager what had happened. He told me that the driver had set the "cruise control" and then went in the back to make a sandwich. SEVEN My neighbor works in the operations department in the central office of a large bank. Employees in the field call him when they have problems with their computers. One night he got a call from a woman in one of the branch banks who had this question: "I've got smoke coming from the back of my terminal. Do you guys have a fire downtown?" EIGHT Police in Radnor, Pa., interrogated a suspect by placing a metal colander on his head and connecting it with wires to a photocopy machine. The message "He's lying" was placed in the copier, and police pressed the copy button each time they thought the suspect wasn't telling the truth. Believing the "lie detector" was working, the suspect confessed. NINE A mother calls 911 very worried, asking the dispatcher if she needs to take her kid to the emergency room, the kid was eating ants. The dispatcher tells her to give the kid some Benadryl and he should be fine, the mother says, I just gave him some ant killer..... Dispatcher: Rush him in to emergency Life is tough. It's tougher if you're stupid!"

Have you noticed the democrats have suddenly changed the subject? Written by: Carolyn Hileman Wasn’t it just last week that the democrats were heralding the new immigrant work force and how we Americans should be glad they were here to mow our lawns. Telling them in public I might add that it was OK we would take care of them, which should be really hard because according to the democrats our economy is so bad we can’t afford to feed ourselves, that we need to take over Wal-Mart and use the food to form a soup line. Suddenly we have so much milk and honey flowing that we not only can feed the twenty million already here but a bunch more. Something tells me that republicans were not the only ones making phone calls on the free number, because now Dean says securing our borders is a priority. Of course we all know he means making it more secure for the illegal’s to cross. You know set up water fountains in the dessert, maybe send over air conditioned trucks. I don’t suppose he saw Kennedy and Hillary out there talking to them in Spanish and telling them how much we needed them. Take heed folks, because if we are ever invaded by Muslims or anyone else they will be doing the same. This weeks topic is the White House shake up and anything else they can think of other than immigration because they got bit in the butt and they just want it all to go away. Man wouldn’t I love to see some of those rabid reporters asking Hillary “Do you regret telling the illegal immigrants that you welcomed them?” Or “What about that comment you made about Jesus being an immigrant?” If you noticed even the media is not going after Bush on the immigrant issue, want to know why? Because if they do then they have to go after the democrats and they wouldn’t want to do that now would they? What is going on here is what always happens, they bring it up plant it in our minds then go in the corner and wait for it to die down. What say we keep the fire going, keep the topic going strong, call all of them what they are which is a bunch of wimps who can’t stop a bunch of illegal immigrants from taking over our streets. Bronough I hope I am spelling that right but I doubt it and I really don’t care because you see if enough Lufkin, Texas residents vote against him I won’t need to know how to spell it. Normally I could care less about our mayor but that all changed when this idiot went out to a group of Mexicans presumably illegal and told them “We welcome you with open arms.” Alamo supporters don’t get your hopes up either because he was marching with them. (AP) - Minuteman border watch leader Chris Simcox has a message for President Bush: Build new security fencing along the border with Mexico or private citizens will. Simcox said Wednesday that he's sending an ultimatum to the president, through the media, of course - "You can't get through to the president any other way" - to deploy military reserves and the National Guard to the Arizona border by May 25. Or, Simcox said, by the Memorial Day weekend Minuteman Civil Defense Corps volunteers and supporters will break ground to start erecting fencing privately. "We have had landowners approach," Simcox said in an interview. "We've been working on this idea for a while. We're going to show the federal government how easy it is to build these security fences, how inexpensively they can be built when built by private people and free enterprise." Simcox said a half-dozen landowners along the Arizona-Mexico border have said they will allow fencing to be placed on their borderlands, and others in California, Texas and New Mexico have agreed to do so as well. "Certainly, as with everything else, we're only able to cover a small portion of the border," Simcox said. "The state and federal government have bought up most of the land around the border. I suspect that's why we'll never get control of the border." But he said the plan is to put up secure fencing that truly will be an effective deterrent, and to show how easily it can be accomplished. Simcox gave this description of the envisioned barrier-and-fencing complex: Start with a 6-foot deep trench so a vehicle can't crash through; behind it, roll of concertina (coiled, razor-edged barbed wire), in front of a 15-foot high heavy-gauge steel mesh fence angled outward at the top. Behind the fence will be a 60- to 70-foot wide unpaved but graded dirt road, along with inexpensive, mounted video cameras that can be monitored from home computers. On the other side of the road will be a second, 15-foot fence, with more concertina wire on its outside. "It's a very simple, effective design based on feedback we've had from Border Patrol and the military," Simcox said. "It's a fence that can be built on the cheap, effective and secure." Simcox said supporters will try to build the fencing with volunteer labor. Surveyors and contractors have offered to help with the design and survey work, he said, and some have said they will provide heavy equipment. Simcox said those involved in the planning hope to keep costs to between $125 and $150 a foot. Access to land literally on the border is an issue because so much is state-leased trust property or federally owned, he said. "You may have to deal with a situation where private property owners erect their own fences and may be faced with the president sending the National Guard to prevent them from protecting their private property," Simcox said. While two parents in Lexington, Mass., are upset about the fact their second-grade son was read a fantasy book in school about two princes getting married, what makes them even more angry is the fact the boy's teacher said because same-sex marriage is legal in their state there is no way a mother or father can opt out a child from such experiences. "We are outraged," parents Rob and Robin Wirthlin told the local Article 8 Alliance. "This is a highly charged social issue. Why are they introducing it in the second grade? And we cannot present our family's point of view to our children if they don't tell us what they're saying to them." According to a statement from the traditional-values organization, March 24 the Wirthlins' second-grade son came home from Estabrook Elementary School and repeated to his mother the story read to him earlier that day about men getting married to each other. His teacher had read the book "King and King" to the class, in which a prince doesn't want to marry any princesses, but instead falls in love with a princess' brother and marries him in a big palace wedding. The Wirthlins say they immediately contacted the teacher, Heather Kramer, who acknowledged she had read the book to the class and admitted that it was not part of the curriculum. It was explained to the couple that since same-sex marriage is legal in Massachusetts, discussion of the matter is fair game — parents do not have to be informed before or after the issue is presented. Kramer reportedly told the Wirthlins that the theme of the day was "weddings" and the teacher wanted to present all points of view on the subject. Does this kind of stuff even belong in a school, much less the second grade? No matter what your views are on gay marraige, this is a hot topic across the nation, and is a family values issue to many parents. In my opinion, this is nothing more than indoctrination of views that goes against the religious views of many families. To leave parents out of the loop on such a controversial topic, with no way to opt their child out and no notification so that an alternate view point can be presented is a pure attempt at indoctrination. If this were a debate topic in a highschool, I wouldn't have a problem…but it is clearly a one-sided view that has no place in a second grade classroom. Here's a note of advice for the gay activists: Trying to force your views on American children will not further the agenda of acceptance or tolerance, it will only cause backlash. She was the original recycle queen, before they had a Name for it... A father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones. Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, and dish-towel in the other. It was the time for fixing things. A curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress Things we keep. It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, eating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be more. But then my mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more. Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never to return. So... while we have it... it's best we love it... and care for it... and fix it when it's broken...... and heal it when it's sick. This is true... for marriage.... and old cars.... and children with bad report cards..... and dogs with bad hips.... and aging parents..... and grandparents. Democrat Leader Harry Reid scuttled efforts to improve Border Security, even though he knew that this issue was important to most Americans -- An April 6-9 CBS national poll stated that 87% of Americans believe illegal immigration is either a very serious or a somewhat serious problem for our nation. 17 Democrat-held Senate seats are up for election this fall, and the best way we can repay Harry Reid and the Democrats for ignoring the will of the American people is shrink their base of power by electing more Republicans to the Senate. There are no petitions for you to sign. A show of symbolic force will not stop Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer. I need you to get mad. Get mad because today - more illegals crossed our borders - some with drugs, some with contraband - maybe even some with a weapon of mass destruction - and the Democrats don't care. I need you to get mad and agree with me that we need to beat the Democrats in November - because if we don't - the time to be mad will have passed us - it will simply be a time to be afraid. We just do not understand An open letter to our leaders Written by: Carolyn Hileman I have a little boy; he is all of twelve years old on Friday the Mexicans walked out of his school to protest. On Monday they were wearing Mexican flags on their faces, God only knows what today will bring for him to try and comprehend. I would love to be able to explain this to him but I am at a loss of words to explain what is going on in our country. He was raised to obey the law and to respect others, yet he himself is not being respected now. Could one of you please tell me why I should tell him he must obey the rules if no one else is? Could you tell me how I am supposed to tell my children to respect their leaders, when their leaders are showing absolutely no respect for the American people? I don’t know whether to be angrier at the Mexicans for being in our streets or at you for not protecting them. How can I look my children in the eyes and tell them it will all be OK when I don’t even believe it myself right now? When the planes flew into our buildings I knew that if nothing else the president would protect us, I don’t have that feeling right now. It feels to me like we are being sold to the highest voting block, and that you really never meant a damn word you said about protecting us. Where is our shock and awe in our streets? Do the American people have to take to the streets to get your attention? You call this a civil rights rally I call it scary because they are being allowed to destroy our flag with impunity. These people are being allowed to gather without a permit, children are being allowed to walk out of school with impunity and all of our laws are being just thrown by the wayside. Everyone is worried about there being a civil war in Iraq, someone up there needs to look in our streets because if we don’t do something soon our soldiers will be fighting for Mexico and if that is the case I will join the peace movement because I will stand for no blood shed for Little Mexico. It is a very scary thing to think about the fact that our leaders are no longer bothering to listen to the American people. We no longer have a voice in our own country; it is being drowned out by people who are here illegally. There were no INS agents to round these people up and send them home no we stood by and watched!!! The White House the congress and senate should be ashamed, you tell us you will protect us yet you cannot put down a rally by people who should not even be here and plan to give them exactly what they want. The wall they talk about is going to be nothing more than a virtual wall, they will only end up paying $2000.00 if they get caught and you know what I really don’t think they are to damn worried about that simply because we ALLOWED them to stand in our streets and demand that we do nothing to them. Hello, where in the hell was INS? This is further proof they have no intention of becoming Americanized, they instead want us to look like downtown Mexico with protests and all. I have a question why in the hell can’t these people take over their own country? Why come here and try to take over ours? They call themselves the backbone of America; wear white t-shirts to symbolize peace. Peace only if we decide to do things their way, protests and God only knows what else if we don’t. Take a moment people and look at those numbers and tell me if they do not frighten you just a little? I have always held the belief that they would be our Paris burning, I have held off on writing this in order not to give them any ideas but it is time to sound the alarm. We have in our midst protected criminals who can do just about anything they want and get away with it. They can march down our streets in all their glory and spit in the American faces that feed and clothe them and not one INS agent will step forward to detain them. They came in peace on this day, but what about the next one, when they don’t get what they want do we really believe they will remain peaceful. Take a look at those numbers people are our local law enforcement ready to deal with them if they become violent? They are already accustom to coming here and taking what they want do you really think once they see how much power they have that they are just going to say oh OK you win, get real here. Yes, they are humans as well and they deserve to have a decent life however, they have just proven they can call out a very large group to get things done so why not do that in their own countries? It is time to match force with force; it is time to let our leaders know that they are not the only ones who vote. No one is asking you to go out in the street and protest although if you feel froggy don’t let us stop you. We are only asking you to e-mail your senators or make one simple phone call 1-888-355-3588 it is a toll free number and it will get you in contact with your senator so that you can let them know we are sick and damn tired of them trying to give our country to the illegal immigrants. Tell them that while one day those people may be able to vote right now you can and you will use that power to stop them from coming back to office. But just how tired of you of the illegal immigrants standing in our streets telling us that we are here illegally, how angry are you when you see our American flag hung upside down UNDER the Mexican flag? Are you mad enough to pick up a phone to call someone to tell them to make them stop? If your not then we will just sit here and wait for them to take over because that is what they plan to do. They are not just protesting this bill that would declare them illegal, they are showing their force, they are enlisting more of their people with the sole purpose of taking over our country and if that don’t make you mad then I would go out and buy that Spanish disk now because you are going to need it. This is not a conspiracy theory; this is fact that they stated on their web site the great march. I have heard enough of the we can’t send them all back people till I am ready to puke. If we could evacuate New Orleans and Houston Texas in a matter of days we can damn sure load these people up in buses and send them back from which they came. We have a national guard which should have been called out this weekend in California this was nothing more than an invasion by another country wishing to take over ours and to say any different is ludicrous. Our government stood by and watched while we were being invaded by people from another country and they want us to believe that they will keep us safe, think again. American parents are afraid to send their kids to school, because they are talking about using violence, what part of this is a take over do these people not get!!! I called the White House line today and left comments for the president who is having tea with a leader of the country that is invading us. Are our schools a safe haven for terrorist activity? Written by: Carolyn Hileman It is the unthinkable, our children being used as targets but it is one we as parents should look at very seriously. The question first became of interest to me when I heard about a local school who was upset because their star soccer player was going to be deported. My first question was how did this kid manage to go through school unnoticed and end up with a scholarship? It was then that I decided to do a little research on the subject, what I found both amazed and disgusted me. During the past year, more than one million immigrants entered the United States! Proportionally larger have come in the past. One difference is that today's immigrants are coming from so many different places around the world -- all at the same time. Our government estimates that in the past year, 800,000 entered legally and approximately 300,000 illegally. (The opposite of what most people thought!) Source: Public Agenda Online, June, 1999. An estimated 41 percent enter the country legally by means of a visa (student, tourist, temporary), and then stay beyond the time when the visa has expired. The remainder enters secretly to avoid detection by the government. Source: "Illegal Alien Resident Population," February, 1997, Immigration and Naturalization Service. With Arab and Muslim communities, totaling about 7 to 10 million, also about 3,000 illegal Iraqi immigrants are said to be missing amid US concerns that some could be connected with groups or agents of the Iraqi regime. According to the Iraqi-American Council, there are some 300,000 Iraqi-Americans living in the US, mostly in Michigan, California, Texas, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. Before 1982, a Texas law prevented state funds from being used for the education of undocumented children. Under Texas law, Local Education Agencies (LEAs) could deny enrollment to such students. In Plyler v Doe, however, the United States Supreme Court held, in a five-to-four decision, that the Texas law was unconstitutional. The ruling was based on the equal protection provisions of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Of particular concern to the Court was the fact that children--rather than their parents--were involved (Uerling, 1982). The Court believed that denying undocumented children access to education punished children for their parents' behavior. Such an action, the Court noted, did not square with basic ideas of justice (Uerling, 1982). Following the Plyler ruling, many undocumented students began to attend public schools in the United States (Haney, 1987). Because of the protections imposed by Plyler, however, the exact size of this group of students is difficult to estimate. States can no longer use residency requirements to deny undocumented children access to a tuition-free public education. Under Plyler, undocumented immigrant students have the same right to attend public schools through grade 12 as do citizens and permanent residents. School staffs need to be aware and sensitive as they deal with all immigrant students. In particular, they must act to preserve the right of access, especially by guarding the confidentiality of students' immigration status. In fact, if an undocumented student reasonably perceives that an action has the intent of exposing immigration status, then the right of access is compromised (Willshire Carrera, 1989a). Plyler, moreover, requires that schools apply the right of access to all immigrant students. This step guards against improper distinctions between documented and undocumented children. One exception exists. Immigrants with F-1 and M-1 visas are required by Congress to get the approval of the INS before they may attend school in the U.S. (Willshire Carrera, 1989a). This provision, however, does not apply to other immigrant students, including undocumented immigrant children. So as you can see we are not only required to allow these children in our public schools but we must actively keep their secret. Just think about it every single day we have undocumented children from any country roaming the halls of our schools. We also have no way of knowing if those children are here illegally or if they might be sympathizers with any terrorist regimes. The theories of they are just children died in Columbine, when some of these children killed other children at school. One must also realize that in many Arab countries it is nothing unusual for children as young as ten years of age to take part in a war or be used as a mule for explosives as we have seen in Israel. So the question arises are we protecting the rights of non-citizens at the expense of the citizens? While I realize that most of these are just children who had no say as to what their parents did. That does not comfort me as I wonder what would happen if one day one of those children we are protecting walked in the school with a backpack full of explosives. The FBI has said in recent days that terrorists are increasingly looking to “soft” targets, including places such as malls and travel. One must wonder if they have even considered the public school system, since it was not very long after 9/11 that there was a report that the Texas schools was a possible target. Most of us when we heard that assumed they might try and use the air conditioning system or drive a truck loaded with explosives into the schools in question. However since they already have students in place through out our schools and colleges their job may not be as hard as originally thought. Think about this for a minute, what is the one thing that the terrorist could hit and bring us to our knees? Just how much more difficult would it be for us as parents to agree to fight this war on terrorism knowing for a fact that it is our children that will be the target? What is the one place no one expects them to hit? Is this a simple alarmist reaction? I think not, I think that it is of utmost importance to address this problem now before someone on some panel down the road asks the question why was this not done. It is a cold day during the winter, who is going to question a child going into a school with a large coat, possibly loaded with explosives? Clear and mesh backpacks only allow you to see what is on the outside of the backpacks while safely concealing what could be hidden in the middle of the backpacks. Some students carry additional bags and are never questioned by school officials as to the contents. Students enrolled in band carry very large cases back and forth to and from school without question. The immigrations don’t ask don’t tell policy in our schools could very well endanger our children’s lives on a daily basis. Do we for the sake of being politically correct and compassionate, ignore the fact that there may be potential terrorists walking among our children every single day? Many of us were shocked to learn that the terrorists who boarded those planes lived among us for years. They fit in perfectly, even attended flight school a thought that simply outraged many. Many-questioned why were they not reported, we might now know the answer, in Plyler v Doe. Could it be that they were required by law not to question their motives as to not show that they were undocumented students? Or could it be that they simply misunderstood the law as it pertains to adults? Is it fair to ask parents to simply accept the fact that there are undocumented children allowed the same rights as their children? Was not the rights given by the United States constitution given to United States citizens? How can the fourteenth amendment of the United States constitution apply to a non-citizen? How does a non-citizen under our constitution come to be granted the same rights as a citizen? If our constitution is set up as to govern non-citizens as well as citizens then should we not abolish INS and just open all of our borders. If we are to just accept this to be fact then I suppose the question of undocumented students in our schools is a non-issue. However, when it comes to the safety of our children I am not apt to bow to orders of our courts. We simply cannot afford in this day and time to keep their little secrets. We must for the safety of our children, the ones who were born and raised here and go to the schools under no veil of secrecy act to insure that these questions are answered. We must rise up as one to question as to whether our Supreme Court had the interests of our citizens in mind when it enacted this law, or rather the interests of other countries and their citizens. For our Supreme Court is in place solely for the purpose of protecting the United States citizens. I do not wish to find out one day that some of those students that we were required by law to protect murdered the children whom the Supreme Court decided had enough protection. I do not want to when it is all said and done say well I thought about it, but decided it was none of my business. The safety and security of our nation’s future is everyone’s business and our children are that future. So the question remains are our schools a safe haven for terrorists? Under this shroud of secrecy handed down by our own Supreme Court we will never know will we?

Carolyn, It was great first day at the Wal-Mart media conference. I had the pleasure of meeting Tom Forbes – the force behind Palousitics – and Rob Port – Say Anything blog’s finest. (I also got to meet Rob’s lovely fiancé, Jess.) There’s so much going on that it’s hard to capture it all, but both Tom and Rob have done a fantastic job. Tom has been live blogging most of the day. OK! Again this is primarily for Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity. I am going to try and explain this in a way that even Allen Colmes can understand. I just feel it is a shame your comprehension ability has gotten to this point. Both of you while saying you are for secure borders and immigration reform, still sneak in that phony compassion thing. That’s because illegal immigrants have, not affected you and your families YET! I am going to make this explanation and example as simple as I can. The USA is home to millions of legal Americans. Now pretend your property and home is the USA. You accept guests, relatives, friends and neighbors, people you know and trust. Occasionally a stranger may approach your home claiming to be a good, honest person. Looking for employment, as a gardener, carpenter, painter, electrician etc. I am sure you would demand they first identify themselves, show proof of who they are, proof they own their own business or proof the work for a reputable company. Then one day previous employees of your tell their friends go to O’ Reilly’s or Hannity’s house and get work. Now hoards of strangers show up saying I am a good and honest person let me work for you and live in your area. You are now overwhelmed with workers who are total strangers to you. You decide there is a potential for these people and you can use them for various work they can do for you. So, you set up rules and regulation for them to follow if they want to work for you. They must show identification of whom they are, they must not have criminal records and they must wait their turn for employment. They pay no attention to your rules they just keep coming onto your property a and enter your home uninvited, while others who are following the rules are patiently waiting on line, and waiting for your acceptance. According to your logic, you let them continue to break the rules while you try to stop anymore of them coming onto your property. How will you ever know which ones are criminals or which ones intend to kill you, your family and friend? Do you really want to take that chance? Ask Allen Colmes and other liberals if they are willing to let strangers in their homes as they expect other Americans to do who cannot afford the security and homes that are protected and obscure from intrusion by criminals and illegal immigrants. Or, is it more logical to use your first line security team to get them off your property, then you tell them they must get on line behind those who are following the rules. <>Then you enforce your rules by having anyone who enters your property with out your permission sent back to where they came from. Read the entire e-mail from the US-Mexican Border, and you'll love what one Border Patrol agent did to the ACLU "Legal Observers" E-Mail From the Front Line #6 April 18th, 2006 This has to be the best e-mail from the Front Line (the US-Mexican Border) I’ve gotten yet. Anyone devoted to stopping the ACLU, or anyone with a good sense of humor, will enjoy this one. This offers such a cool perspective from the men down at the border trying to prevent the invasion of the United States. You’ll enjoy this one. Did a Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday until 1:00PM tour of duty on the Campo Line. Friday night and Saturday poured rain and heavy fog at times. Cold and wet was the order of the day and night. I slept in the front of my truck (miserably) with a pillow crammed against the passenger’s side door. I didn’t weant to get in the back and get mud all over everything. We had about 15 guys “on the line” most of Saturday, but it was real miserable. Saturday afternoon we were joined by “The first woman in America to burn the Mexican flag” ( Laine Lawless). When asked what “handle” she wanted for a call sign, she replied without hesitation,”TORCH!” Eat your heart out, Cindy Lou… For those of you who don’t know, Laine is a member of Border Guardians, the group that burned several Mexican Flags in Tucson, at the Mexican Consulate and at a large Mexican demonstration going on in Tucson at the time. She arrived with bullet proof vest, 12 gauge pump shot gun, and large bore pistol of unknown size, dressed in full set of BDU’s of desert cammy color!… Damn, that’s more artillery than any of us “old timers” were packing! She definitely came prepared! Saturday I gave her a tour of the line, including a “pilgrimage” up to see “Kingfish” up in his “Eagle’s Nest.” Several pictures were taken up there, but not by me unfortunately, but Laine took several. I hope she’ll post some of them. Saturday I got appointed by default to lead a Chinese Film Crew around, and show them the line, the drug cartel’s distribution center, some of the guys, and the Non-existent “Border Fence”! Boy, were they impressed with the “POREOUS” fence. Late in the afternoon I overheard an operation going on a few miles away involving the B.P.’s chasing a fair sized group of illegals near highway 94, about three or four miles away. They wanted to film it, and came back about an hour or so later, very well pleased. They said they got to film the chopper chasing the aliens, and six of them being handcuffed and put into the B.P. paddy wagons! They said that they had gotten much more film shot than they had planned on. They work for MSNBC in China (RED), as well as Taiwan. The female was from Taiwan, just naturalized this February, and the little guy was from Red China! More people will see this interview than any other MM article in the world, as their audience is the biggest in the Orient. I kinda always had a “hankerin” to be a Star. Just never knew it would be a Red Star! I could end up being the “stereotype” of an American Minuteman on the Border! I guess all those Billions of Chinese are going to know what I look like, now… Oh well… By Sat. night the rain had stopped, but dense fog was coming and going, and it was damp and cold. I put “Torch” with a MM named Jim together in her car at a heavy infiltration point known as the “Oaks”. It is close to an area where the fence is being worked on by the Corps of Engineers, and three dirt roads on the Mex side all converge here. To make matters worse, there is a large new culvert there that the illegals can crawl their way through, and into the good old USA! Slim Jim and Fiancee, and a Soldier friend of Jim’s were there the night before, and did an excellent job of guarding it all night. (Friday) On Sat. night Torch and Jim got cold, and bored, and called it a night around 10:00PM. Up the line to the west, (almost in front of “Little Dog’s position) a large group of illegals had been spotted by “Jeffe” and “Mad Max.” They had been doing a follow up foot patrol along the fence in response to an alert by Little Dog’s dog, who is very adept at spotting the illegals. They heard them on the other side of the fence, and were trying to keep track of where they were headed. By then, I had responded, as I was one of the mobile units. Soon after arriving, I called out to them on my bullhorn, and soon had them engaged in conversation. Of course they wanted one of the jobs no American wants, and I think they also were coming for the “Amnestia” that Bush and Fox have promised to them. They were none too happy to hear that there was to be no amnesty, Mexicans were unable to find work, that were already here, and that we were here to make sure that they didn’t get through. We all believed these particular Mexicans were a very determined bunch, (most of them sounded drunk) and were going to try to enter anyway, sooner or later, so I called the Tecate Sector B.P.s, and gave them a “heads up”, on the group assembled in Mexico, and about to enter. The B.P.’s of course, over responded and sent a car out at high speed to the spot and the Mex’s scattered like quail, even though they were still on their side of the fence. I actually think the B.P.’s would RATHER scare them back, than to have to chase and catch them over here, and do all the paper work, etc. A big Homeland Secirity Bus leaves Campo every morning about 7:00AM for Tijuana to put them back in their country. Sunday morning turned out to be the best part of the entire weekend! It just started off so cool that even if the entire rest of the day was a “bummer”, it would still have been a good day. Around 8:00AM or so, a B.P. chopper came flying down the line, and we all waved like crazy, and pointed at a Legal Observers’ car that was in the area on the Border road. The pilot made a few low passes, and the landed about 50 yards away from us. There were at least four of us on that hill, and Little Dog on the next hill over, who also had a ring side seat to the action about to unfold. ( People I remember being there were a new guy from Utah named Stealth 1, due to his generation 3 night vision, Nancy and Linsey H., and myself.) The pilot got out of the bird, came over, and shook our hands. He asked what we were all pointing at, and we told him that the ACLU was in that car down on the road, and they were our “enemies”, always trying to “frame us” for anything we MIGHT do, but have never done. After exchanging pleasantries he got back in the bird took off straight up, made a hard left bank, decending to a position DIRECTly over the ACLU’s in their Legal Observers Car, ending up about 15 feet over their heads, max., and inflicting a severe case of rotor wash on the unsuspecting, but richly deserving ACLU bitches driving that car!! They got the “message” and left rather quickly! Of course we were all rolling on the ground with laughter at this point, as a more fitting case of poetic justice has never been rendered more swiftly, or more accurately than that rotor wash was that morning… by the way, the pilot said before leaving,” Off the record, I think that what you guys are doing is GREAT!” I guess those ACLU bitches learned that any vehicle loiterring along the Border Fence is subject to a “closer inspection” by patrolling aircraft!…ha, ha, ha…he, he,he…What a good way to start any day. There are more than 6 billion people in the world, many of whom apparently like the idea of living in the wealthiest democracy on Earth. But if the billions of people of the world did live here, it wouldn't be "here" anymore. America is special for a reason that must transcend the right to vote -- or everyone would be trying to immigrate to Iraq right now. America has a seller's market in immigration, but thanks to Teddy Kennedy's 1965 immigration law, we no longer favor skilled workers from developed nations, but instead favor unskilled immigrants from the Third World. Kennedy's bill promptly cut the number of European immigrants in half and increased Third World immigrants to 85 percent of the total. Not surprisingly, post-1965 immigrants have sharply higher levels of poverty and welfare dependence. Europeans may not seem like ideal new immigrants, but the truth is, if what they want is welfare, they'll stay in France. It's as if we've got the last Xbox 360s available on Christmas Eve and instead of doubling the price, we're entertaining low-ball offers. Please read it all for an eye opener. We know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an immigration over-population conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of American's finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor by the name of Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia," explaining how immigration - both legal and illegal - was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream. Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said, "If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that 'An autopsy of history' would show that all great nations commit suicide. Here is how they do it. "First, to destroy America, turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way: 'The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy.' Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans." Lamm went on: "Second, to destroy America, 'Invent 'multiculturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due solely to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds. "Third, We could make the United States a 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz! said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: 'The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multi-cultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentricity and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.' " Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America enforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities. "Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school "My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of Victimology. I would get all minorities to think that their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population. "My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship, and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other. A. diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshiped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. E. Pluribus Unum -- From many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'pluribus'. instead of the 'Unum,' we will balkanize America as surely as Kosovo. "Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits; make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe' halt discussion and debate. Having made America a bilingual/bicultural country, having established multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them." In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound silence followed. Finally he said,. "Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis's book Mexifornia. His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book." There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly yet pervasively across the United States today. Discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate 'diversity.' American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America - take note of California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell's book 1984. In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: "War is peace," "Freedom is slavery," and "Ignorance is strength." Governor Lamm walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy is deeply in trouble and worsening fast if we don't get this immigration monster stopped within three years, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything in its path, especially The American Dream . Few Protections for Migrants to Mexico

Police and soldiers hunt them down at railroads, bus stations and fleabag hotels. Sometimes they are deported; more often officers simply take their money. While migrants in the United States have held huge demonstrations in recent weeks, the hundreds of thousands of undocumented Central Americans in Mexico suffer mostly in silence. And though Mexico demands humane treatment for its citizens who migrate to the U.S., regardless of their legal status, Mexico provides few protections for migrants on its own soil. The issue simply isn't on the country's political agenda, perhaps because migrants make up only 0.5 percent of the population, or about 500,000 people — compared with 12 percent in the United States. The level of brutality Central American migrants face in Mexico was apparent Monday, when police conducting a raid for undocumented migrants near a rail yard outside Mexico City shot to death a local man, apparently because his dark skin and work clothes made officers think he was a migrant. Virginia Sanchez, who lives near the railroad tracks that carry Central Americans north to the U.S. border, said such shootings in Tultitlan are common. "At night, you hear the gunshots, and it's the judiciales (state police) chasing the migrants," she said. "It's not fair to kill these people. It's not fair in the United States and it's not fair here." Undocumented Central American migrants complain much more about how they are treated by Mexican officials than about authorities on the U.S. side of the border, where migrants may resent being caught but often praise the professionalism of the agents scouring the desert for their trail. Behind the Scenes Buzz TMZ talks to Academy members who are split (Jan. 31) 'Brokeback Mountain' is surely the frontrunner in the Oscar race for Best Picture. But is this phenonemom based solely on the merits of the film, or in part because it pushes a message that is Academy-friendly? One Academy member, a prominent film producer who asked to remain anonymous, bluntly said that the buzz is for movies with the "right agendas" to have the edge. "'Philadelphia' was a great movie," the producer said, "but the concept (AIDS discrimination) was designed to woo the Academy." Famed writer and former film producer Dominick Dunne, also an Academy member says 'Brokeback' is a great movie. Dunne tells TMZ he feels the film is being judged on the merits, not on a political agenda. Dunne, however, acknowledges that "most members of the Academy are liberal Democrats." Mike Fleiss, an Academy member who has such films as 'Hostel' and 'The Texas Chainsaw Masacre' under his belt, tells TMZ he agrees on the political bend of the Academy and adds, "Thank God." Fleiss, who says Ang Lee is one of the greatest directors of our time, claims, "Everyone knows if you pick the right topic you have a better chance at awards." Fleiss says the buzz he hears in Academy circles is that 'Brokeback' is a brilliant movie with "a gutsy statement to make," and that it is "capitalizing on controversy." Another Academy member, a famed producer, tells TMZ a "politically correct" movie doesn't necessarily score points with voters. He notes, 'Titanic' won Best Picture, and didn't have a political bend. Putin Boasts of Weapon Capable of Overcoming US Defense Shield By Sergei Blagov CNSNews.Com Correspondent February 01, 2006 Moscow (CNSNews.Com) - Russia has missiles capable of penetrating any missile defense system, President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday. "Russia last year tested missile systems that no one in the world has and won't have for a long time," he told an annual press conference at the Kremlin on Tuesday. While asserting that the new systems were not a direct response to any missile defense system, Putin said that "it does not matter for them if missile defense exists or not." He added that the new missiles are capable of carrying nuclear warheads. The comments appeared to be aimed at further boosting Russia's international clout as it assumes the rotating presidency of the Group of Eight industrialized nations. Russia's very participation in the G8 has been controversial. There have been calls, including some from U.S. Lawmakers, for Moscow to be expelled from the group on the grounds that the Russian government is drifting away from democratic values. But Putin strongly criticized calls for Russia's expulsion. "I know the mood of the leaders of the G8," he told the press conference. "No one is against our participation in this club." "Can anyone think how nuclear security problems can be solved without the participation of Russia, a key nuclear power?" Russia has long been a critic of the ballistic missile defense (BMD) shield developed by the U.S. During the Bush presidency. When President Bush pulled out of the 1972 Antiballistic Missile Treaty to pursue the new program, Moscow said it no longer felt bound by previous agreements prohibiting missiles with multiple warheads. The defense system is designed to protect the U.S. From missiles fired by rogue states, not from countries with sizeable nuclear arsenals like Russia or China. Russia has nonetheless worked on ways to make the U.S. Umbrella ineffective. Last November, the Russian military hailed the successful test of a Topol intercontinental ballistic missile as a demonstration of its capability to defeat the U.S. Missile defense program. With a range of some 10,000 kilometers, the Topol was earlier reported to be capable of maneuvering its warhead on the final stretch of its trajectory, to prevent its interception and destruction by a missile defense system. The Solution: How a liberal is balanced How a liberal is balanced Last night during English class my professor did what countless others have done: given us a column/paper written by a prominent liberal and tried to portray it as having been written by someone "down the middle" or "mainstream". Someone who is "knocking both sides". Most Republican students are then given the choice of biting their tongues, cautiously objecting, or barfing on the carpet right then and there. I didn't have anything in my stomach to regurgitate (Delighla, on the other hand, could have contributed to this effort) and I am an official taxpayer now so I don't see fit to bite my tongue, so I casually mentioned the piece in question was written by Frank Rich who when he looks to his left can only see Michael Moore and Satan. Then she went through this song and dance about how he criticized both Democrats and Republicans, blah blah blah. Me at 16 would have kept the discussion going, but me at 26 knows I am outnumbered in class and I don't know if she's one of those teachers that has a special giftwrapped "C" for her conservative students at the end of the semester so I backed down. What she said is actually true: Frank Rich does have some strong, negative words for the Democratic Party in this column, but if you look closer this is what he was saying: I am pissed off at the liberals because they are not liberal enough, but I am pissed off at conservatives because they are conservative. What part of that is balanced? I hate my people because they aren't enough like me, but I hate your people because they exist. In the class of fifteen there were maybe two other people that realized this. Most agreed and nodded as Rich talked about 'Karl Rove's White House propaganda factory'. I admit it, I don't read Frank Rich, so I don't have a big point of reference on him. However, he seems to take the usual liberal excuse for everything Democrats do that they don't like: The Democrats aren't doing anything the Republicans aren't doing Rich tries to paint James Frey and Sam Alito with the same brush of "truthiness". Apparently this is a phrase coined by the annoying Jon Stewart MiniMe Steven Colbert. Frey, who wrote a fiction nonfiction book about rehab (or would it be a nonfiction fiction?) and then was defended by Oprah who told her flock that the truthfulness/truthiness of Frey's book wasn't the issue- it was a good book after all, so its okay to lie per Mama Winfrey. This ties to Alito because according to NY Times reporter David Kirpatrick: “Some colleagues and friends of the elder Mr. Alito, who died in 1987, said they had never heard some of the stories his son has recounted, including the episode about his support for the black student and the fact that his father immigrated from Italy as a child.” This apparently constitutes evidence in Rich's mind: friends and colleagues of a man dead for nearly 19 years are unable to recall hearing the stories his son recounted. Imagine if this same evidence was used to convict a criminal. Every liberal in America (and even most conservatives) would be up in arms!! They never heard some of the stories- that means Alito is a liar. Apparently Alito's father didn't wear a T-shirt that read "I immigrated from Italy and helped a black student" everyday of his life. Presumably Alito's father was being modest, but those of Rich's ilk will call his son a liar. Naturally Rich brings up the war in Iraq (what column written by a Democrat is complete without Iraq?). The same truthiness that makes it okay for Frey to lie about his experiences and will get Alito confirmed to the SCOTUS is why we went into Iraq. This brand of truthiness is represented by a mushroom cloud. Rich would have been against invading Iraq even if Uday and Qusay had flown the planes into the WTC themselves. Rich fears success in Iraq even more than he hates the war. Success there means the USA will have sent a message to the Islamofascists that we won't back down under any circumstances. It also serves to further isolate Iran because Iran will be faced with three allies of America on its borders. Success there is vitally important. There was no truthiness getting in and there is no truthiness as to how important the mission is. Somehow I doubt the English professor in question would agree to the above paragraphs. She said that Frank Rich's specialty is taking a different view of issues everyday. You never know where he will come down- what side will he take? Just what in the hell is Frank Rich's opinion after all? She made it seem like some kind of mystery. As though there is any mystery to someone who writes for the Liberal Death Star, the Huffington Post, and Truthout.org. Somehow "fair and balanced" isn't what enters one's mind reading these pages.

Bretz dated: Dec. 19th, 2005- Just a little over a year ago a brave young soldier, like many other brave young soldiers, was riding in a tank 20 miles somewhere outside Mosul, Iraq. While traveling down the well known course, a bomb went off under his vehicle- changing his life forever. As the present company traveling with this soldier, tried to untwist the seemingly lifeless body from around the steering wheel of the truck he was driving, his bloody lifeless body showed no signs of life. …A phone call came in to his family saying, "It doesn’t look good-uncertain whether he will live, or that he will even have his left arm and his legs are already gone." It was just this last year that I received an email from a friend about Sgt. Brent Bretz and the incident that had befallen him. After reading the email, I thought this might be an opportunity to share a story of attitudes with some students I work with; I contacted the friend to garner more information about this soldier, his situation and progress. Quickly he connected me with the young soldier’s mother and she began to share with me the rest of her son’s story. The following statement is why I wanted to share his story with my students and why I am compelled to impart it to you. "... I want you all to know that life is not to be taken as an edge of your seat ride but with safety and comfort that you get from being with real friends and family. Not a day goes by that I wish I would have done more with my life, and been more willing to try some of the things I was a little scared to do. There are so many men and woman out there right now that are willing to put there life on the line so you can enjoy this holiday season in comfort, and the biggest thing you have to deal with is that Wal-Mart wont use "Merry Christmas" in their advertising. Many wonder how I can be so up-beat with what has happened to me and I tell you this- if Sgt. Stephen R Sherman, and many others can give their life then my blood, sweat, tears, and my legs are NOTHING in comparison. Nothing is forever, not even life, take it and do all you want with it don't be afraid to fall because getting back up is so much sweeter than walking past the dreams you have! I want to thank you for all the support, your words and actions have made what I have done worth it, and I really mean that. Even if I have changed the life of one, that means that all I have done has been worth what I have given... One last note I know some people don't think so, but I'm no hero I was doing my job like so many others, and if you really want to see some heroes look at those that gave their lives so that you may live yours." This is what being a person of honor really is. As I shared Sgt. Brent N. Bretz story with the young students they immediately felt compelled to put their thoughts and gratitude into action. These young people, all 26 of them, sat down and wrote letters to Sgt. Bretz that very afternoon. Some of the letters were one sheet in length, but many of them were several pages long. This is what I found so amazing about our young people, each letter contained within it a big thank you to Sgt. Bretz’s dedication to keeping not only them safe from terrorists, but for helping other kids like them. They thanked Sgt. Bretz for helping liberate the Iraqi children and granting them the hope and privilege of being able to go to school. The student’s letters were filled with compassion, gratitude and admiration for their new hero. Many of the students added in their letters- they would whine over homework or a paper cut, but here was a soldier persevering under the most strenuous circumstances in life- a life with no legs, little use of a left arm and countless surgeries- all because Sgt. Bretz believed in something bigger than just himself. Sgt. Bretz spirit of optimism impressed these young people. As discussions continued to take place over the ensuing days many students shared how they understood the WMD’s did not just consist of nuclear warfare or the garnering of nuclear technology. The students on their own researched and stated they understood weapons of mass destruction can come in forms of ruthless dictatorships. As they realized the former Iraqi leader had gassed his own people and planned with other likeminded mass murders to carry out the destruction of all who do not fall in line with their jihadist’s beliefs. They young students understood the logic and simplicity of why we are doing what we are doing. The study of the radical "Holy War" of hatred towards western ideals, that threads itself over fifty years ago with a man named Sayyid Qutb, was not necessary for the students to grasp the grave seriousness of this jihadist’s determined promise. They understood- that you cannot reason with that level of fanaticism. Out of the mouth babes countless times lessons can be learned. The comprehension level of the children I work with is higher than most highly educated adults and our elected officials. They firmly grasped the importance of our coalition forces going into Iraq, but they could not understand the political divisiveness of our elected officials. As fellow beings co-existing on this planet we may have differing views points on our war on terror, but never should we turn this war on terror into a political game. Those who have spun this war on terror for their own political gain are nothing better than the murderous terrorist’s thugs that are trying to dominate by any means our very existence. We have politicians sitting comfortably in their Italian leather chairs with hot and cold running water, heating and A/C, private jet planes, gourmet delicacies and the ability to bellow their pontificating nonsense from our nation’s headquarters. All while our men and women in the forces march on to fight for freedom. How sad it truly is that many of our youth understand the simplest of things, but our nations politicians will not acquiesce long enough to see beyond their own agendas. The war on terror is not about political name calling, game playing or scoring voters points- it’s about our survival as a race and living under the freedom to choose. Thank you Sgt. Brent Bretz for all you have given, thank you for having a positive outlook upon life and thank you for your willingness to share. Our prayers continue to go up for you, as we know your road to recovery is long. Thank you wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers for being a part of all who serve so bravely and unselfishly without agenda, but for the love of freedom. Written by: Carolyn Hileman Ok, let’s get something straight here folks if we had wanted any member of congress or senate to run our country handle the war on terror or anything else we would have voted for them as president, we didn’t so get a clue will you… The reason you baffoons did not get elected is because we do not trust you with our National security, any questions so far? You idiots have made it damn clear that you would hand over the keys to the enemy if you thought they might let you keep your job. I am past sick of these people sticking their nose into everything and trying their best to make it look like our president is either as stupid as they are or as evil as they are. Our constitution allows checks and balances not shared control and you guys have not been reading the constitution because if you had you would know this. You can decide whether to fund the war but that my friend is it. That is all you get to do, you don’t get to second guess what is being done, you don’t get to change anything that is being done and God am I glad of that because you would have handed over the keys and we would all be bowing to Allah about now. Most everyday Americans know that the president is not listening to our conversations, save the ones who actuarially believe you had any brains what so ever. Perhaps this is because I mostly deal with far left liberals who share the same insane views and have the same radical agenda as the ACLU. Anyone who believes that the ACLU is there to purely defend the Constitution is naive at best. Surely there are some moderate liberals out there that can concede that the organization is in need of reform. A balanced society can not survive resting in the fringe. A Nation only concerned with security will drift toward a police state, and one that follows the absolutist views of liberty like the ACLU will drift toward anarchy. The ACLU proudly display a banner that states, Keep America Safe and Free, but any honest person will admit that the ACLU have done nothing for the safety of America. As a matter of fact, all evidence leads to quite the opposite. The ACLU are always ready to put the security of America at risk in the pursuit of its absolutist views of liberty. Many of the ACLU's former leaders have noticed the irresponsible shifting of the ACLU away from true civil liberty protection into a much more dangerous agenda. Were the anti-abortion activists on trial accused of violence? No. Did they threaten violence? Not as the ACLU or Supreme Court usually defines it, when in the context of a call for social change. The activists posted a Web site dripping with animated blood and titled "The Nuremberg Files," after the German city where the Nazis were tried for their crimes. Comparing abortion to Nazi atrocities, the site collected dossiers on abortion doctors, whom they called "baby butchers." ... This is ugly, scary stuff. But it is no worse than neo-Nazi calls for the annihilation of the Jewish people, or a college student posting his rape fantasies about a fellow coed on the Web, both of which the ACLU has defended in the past. None of the anti-abortion group's intimidating writings explicitly threatened violence. Still, the ACLU of Oregon refused to support the defendants' First Amendment claims. Instead, it submitted a friend-of-the-court brief taking no one's side but arguing that speech constitutes a physical threat only when the speaker intends his statement to be taken as one. ...Before anti-abortion zealots started getting sued, the ACLU had much more tolerance for menacing speech. Few of the 20th century's great social movements were entirely peaceable. The labor, civil-rights, antiwar, environmental and black-power movements were an amalgam of violence, civil disobedience and highly charged rhetoric. But to gag fiery speakers who call for harm to the establishment because others in the movement pursue their political goals with fists, guns or bombs would do terrible damage to strong, emotive pleas tot social change. It is something neither the ACLU nor, thankfully, the courts have countenanced in the past. That's why in 1969 the ACLU helped defend a Ku Klux Klan member who had called for violence against the president, Congress and the Supreme Court. At the ACLU's urging, the Supreme Court ruled that speech advocating violence was constitutionally protected unless it incited imminent lawless action and was likely to produce such action. This case was later used to defend the speech of black militants. The ACLU also applauded a 1982 Supreme Court decision that found that speeches promising violent reprisals were protected by the First Amendment. During the civil-rights movement, a leader of the NAACP called for "breaking the necks" of blacks who violated a boycott of white-owned businesses in Mississippi, and published a list of those who did. Some of the boycott violators were beaten. The court ruled that despite the atmosphere of fear, all the speeches and lists were part of a debate on a public issue that needed to be "uninhibited, robust, and wide-open."

I would argue that the Constitution doesn't protect all of these extreme positions of the ACLU, but that isn't the point he is trying to make. The issue is the ACLU's curious commitment to "uninhibited, robust, and wide-open" free speech when it involves things such as virtual child pornography, but not when it involves a something like a boss making racially offensive statements. Unfortunately, there are some people who are so hypnotized by the ACLU's absolutist views and of the ACLU's campaign for pedophilia and child pornography that they are prepared to defend an organization that has become a shadow of its former self--a group that lets its idealistic and skewed understanding of the establishment clause trump freedom of religion and freedom of speech.

Stop the ACLU had the opportunity last year of interviewing a former ACLU lawyer. He was concerned with much of the same things.

The ACLU played a helpful role in the civil rights movement defending these people, and I can't turn my back on that. I have to give credit where credit is due." "But….that being said, what they have done in the past is completely eviscerated by what they do in the present. The ACLU has become a fanatical anti-faith Taliban of American religious secularism." "The ACLU is involved in the secular cleansing of our history. This is not just a fight about free exercise, but about the protection of our American history. The ACLU want to deny America the knowledge of their Christian heritage."

It seems that the many of the ACLU's greatest critics came from their very ranks. The division within the ACLU will continue as long as the ACLU continues on the irresponsible, hypocritical path it is on. America needs a civil liberties union, sadly the ACLU isn't doing that job. If the ACLU succeeds in the dangerous direction it is steering America, they will ironically be putting in jeapordy the very liberty they claim to protect. Esseff, Sr. He paid $104, 655.60 to run the ad and only did it because he is sick and tired of the way that "the rich" are portrayed by liberals these days. It is a great read. Maybe you're a Republican? In today's America ask a growing number of high school and college students, their teachers and professors, the self-anointed media elite and/or hard working men and women of all ethnicities, the question, "What ! is a Republican?" and you'll be told ". a rich, greedy, egotistical individual, motivated only by money and the desire to accumulate more and more of it, at the expense of the environment, the working poor....and all whom they exploit..." I am a Republican - And I am none of those things...and I don't know any Republicans who are! WHAT I AM is disgusted with the Courts who on one hand call the murder of a pregnant woman a "double homicide," but then refer to the abortion of her baby as "pro-choice". WHAT I AM is someone deeply troubled by a political party which embraces a candidate whose primary "leadership" qualities center around his protesting of the Vietnam war and his labeling the honorable men and women who fought in it, (50,000 of whom gave their lives in that action), as rapists, and war criminals (John Kerry). That same political party then stepped forward this year to block the appearance of a true Vietnam war hero, retired Admiral and former United States Senator, Jeremiah Denton, (a man who spent seven years and seven torturous months in a North Vietnam prison), from speaking before an open session of the California legislature as part of that state's 4th of July celebration. The reason Democrats gave for refusing to allow this American hero to speak before their state legislature was because of the "conservative" nature of his views. As an American, that troubles me deeply....as well it should you. (Are you listening Mr. D?) WHAT I AM is a man who feels the need to spend, ONE HUNDRED & FOUR THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED & FIFTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($104, 655.60, tax paid) of his own money, to purchase this advertisement, in order to set the story straight. Some may say this money would have been better spent feeding the world's poor. At the risk of sounding self-serving, as an American and as a Republican, for the last six decades of my life, I have done exactly that...and more. Following the examples of my parents and grand parents, I have used my earnings to feed the poor, shelter the homeless, provide housing for the elderly and medical care for the sick.....and continue to do so...and I'm not alone in that work. Mexico to Give Migrants Maps of Arizona By MARK STEVENSON, AP MEXICO CITY (Jan. 25) - A Mexican government commission said Tuesday it will distribute at least 70,000 maps showing highways, rescue beacons and water tanks in the Arizona desert to curb the death toll among illegal border crossers. The National Human Rights Commission, a government-funded agency with independent powers, denied the maps - similar to a comic-style guide booklet Mexico distributed last year - would encourage illegal immigration. Officials said the maps would help guide those in trouble find rescue beacons and areas with cell phone reception. The maps will also show the distance a person can walk in the desert in a single day. "We are not trying in any way to encourage or promote migration," said Mauricio Farah, one of the commission's national inspectors. "The only thing we are trying to do is warn them of the risks they face and where to get water, so they don't die." Russ Knocke, a spokesman for the U.S. Homeland Security Department, questioned whether the maps would keep those crossing the border safer. "It is not helpful for anyone, no matter how well intended they might be, to produce road maps that lead aliens into the desolate and dangerous areas along the border, and potentially invite criminal activity, human exploitation and personal risk," he said. And some advocates of greater immigration control were irritated by the map announcement. "What's next? Are they going to buy them bus tickets to Chicago?" said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington-based think tank. "It's clearly a bad thing for Mexico to be encouraging illegal immigration." The comic booklet for migrants was distributed by the government in early 2005 and warned of the perils of crossing illegally into the United States, while offering tips to stay safe. The booklet, of which about 1.5 million were printed, enraged some advocates of stricter immigration policies in the United States who argue that it encouraged illegal migration. Farah said his commission was simply trying to prevent deaths and estimated that around 500 Mexicans died trying to cross the border in 2005. Many die in the desert, where summer temperatures soar above 100 degrees, and many drown while attempting to cross the Rio Grande river. The commission plans to hang the poster-size maps in March in places where migrants will see them, such as migrant-aid groups, the commission's offices and in Mexican border towns. They were designed by the Tucson, Ariz.-based rights group Humane Borders, which operates some of the desert water stations. The group previously distributed about 100 posters in the Mexican border town of Sasabe. The Rev. Robin Hoover, president of Humane Borders, said maps are needed in southern Mexico so migrants can weigh the risks before leaving home. Some of the posters have warnings, such as "Don't go. There isn't enough water," but officials conceded many migrants were unlikely to heed the advice. Knocke said the United States had increased personnel and surveillance along the border to discourage illegal crossings and immigrant smugglers. "Our message should be clear: we are securing our borders and we're dramatically increasing the likelihood of apprehensions," he said. Farah said migration "is a human right" and that "the United States should be grateful" the commission is doing something to curb the death toll, because "hundreds of thousands of Mexicans help maintain their economy." Mexicans working in the United States are a huge source of revenue for Mexico, sending home more than $16 billion in remittances in 2004, Mexico's second largest source of foreign currency after oil exports according to the country's central bank. Liberals concede future elections Written by: Carolyn Hileman While it is true that at one time the Democratic Party stood for something and was once a major force in the world it appears that, that is all about to change. Worldwide, some 20-30 million legal abortions are performed each year, with another 10-20 million abortions performed illegally. What this simply means is that while they are exercising their right over their body they are also negating one vote in the ballot box in eighteen years. Since abortions became legal twenty years ago some four hundred million abortions have been performed using the lower number given for those done legally. Stop and think about this for a moment, eight years ago it would have seemed highly unlikely that a conservative could have won the White House much less two years in a row. Is this because the conservatives did such a wonderful job of changing the minds of the liberals, I think not. The simple matter of it is that they have been and continue to systematically kill off their constituents. What they call exercising their rights, is actually destroying their chance at being a governing power. There is an e-mail flying around the internet that says to leave the liberals and the gays alone because in ten years they will have killed themselves off, while some of us conservatives think it is funny, it does have a lot of merit. Take for instance the animals in the wild; if they fail to reproduce or kill off their young they become extinct. The fact is the liberals by their sheer nature are making themselves extinct. If they continue to kill off their constituency in record numbers and engage in sex that produces no offspring they will in fact be extinct in the next ten to twenty years. While this is cause for celebration among many conservatives I am sure, it is still lives that we are dealing with. While they busily call these children a fetus we call them a person and raise them to believe the same. The liberals however will not have that option; they cannot shape the future if they have no future to shape. They will not be able to raise another generation of liberals simply because they called them a fetus and terminated them. The future is our children, our legacy is our children, without them we become just another one of those sites they dig up a hundred years from now. So twenty years from now when there isn’t even enough liberals left to be a party they will have no one other than themselves to blame. From what I can tell each time a procedure is done the liberals are conceding a future election.

The audience laughed some more, and Bush, who owns a ranch in Texas, allowed that, "I've heard about it." "Brokeback Mountain" is a cowboy romance about two ranch-hand buddies who conceal a long homosexual affair from their families. The movie has won four Golden Globe prizes, including best picture honors in the drama category. File this in the who cares section. I do not care what you do in the privacy of your own bedroom but I am not about to pay to watch it. I mean really how about we force atheists to go watch the Passion, give me a break. Remarks of Karl Rove at the New York Conservative Party White House Wednesday, June, 22, 2006 Thank you very much, Michael, for your kind introduction - and for all you have done over the years to advance the conservative cause in this great state and throughout our land. You are a forceful and articulate champion of conservatism - and all of us are grateful for your energy and commitment to a great cause. I honored to receive the Charles Edison Memorial Award, particularly in light of your previous honorees, including Representative Jack Kemp, Senator Zell Miller, and above all, President Ronald Wilson Reagan. That is better company than I deserve to be in - but I'll take what I can get. It's a pleasure to be among so many friends and fellow conservatives - and it's a privilege to speak to the Conservative Party of New York. You provide much of the energy and activism and hard work that has brought us to a moment when conservatism is the dominant political creed in America - and when we are making progress on so many important issues. Think for a moment how much has been achieved by conservatives in the last 40 years. The conservative movement has gone from a small, principled opposition to a broad, inclusive movement that is self-assured, optimistic, forward-leaning, and dominant. Four decades ago conservatism was relegated to the political wilderness - and today conservatism is the guiding philosophy in the White House, the Senate, the House, and in governorships and state legislatures throughout America. More importantly, we have seen the great rise of a great cause. Conservatives have achieved a tremendous amount in the past 2 ½ decades - but there is more, much more, that remains to be done. This afternoon I will devote my remarks to the President's victory in November; the ideas that will continue to work in our favor; and the state of contemporary liberalism. The political realignment in America is moving ahead; here are some of the reasons I believe this is happening. To you, the Presidential election probably seems like it took place a long time ago; I know that's certainly how it seems to me. But it was a key election in the history of our country - and there are important things we can learn from it. Recall that in 2004, we faced a united opposition which outspent our side by over $40 million in a time of controversial war and a recovering, but not recovered economy. The 2004 election was a steep political mountain to climb, but the President scaled it - and he did so with energy, passion, decency, and an unwavering commitment to principle. What is significant about November's victory is not simply that the President won, but how he won. In the 2004 election, President Bush placed all his chips on the table. There was no trimming on issues, no "campaign conversion," no backing away from Social Security and tax code reform. The President persistently made the case for an "ownership society"; championed a culture of life; defended the institution of marriage; stood with the people of Iraq in their passage to liberty; remained committed to spreading democracy in the Middle East; and continued to aggressively wage and win the war on global terrorism. President Bush showed himself as he is. He wanted a referendum on what he has accomplished - and most importantly, on what he hopes to achieve. The victory itself was significant. President Bush received more votes than any other candidate in American history. He's the first President since 1988 to win a majority of the popular vote. He increased his popular vote total by 11.6 million votes since 2000 - more than four-and-a-half times President Clinton's increase from 1992 to 1996. President Bush improved his percentage in all but three states. He improved his vote in 87 percent of all counties and carried more than 80 percent of the counties - and he won in 97 of the 100 fastest-growing counties and George W. Bush is also the first President since FDR to be re-elected while his party gained seats in the House and Senate - and the first Republican President since 1924 to get re-elected while re-electing Republican House and Senate majorities. And he won with a higher percentage than any Democratic Presidential candidate has received since 1964. President Bush achieved what almost none of his critics thought he would. Once again, they misunderestimated what you and he could do. And now, moving forward, here's why we will defy expectations again. It's because of the ideas we hold. A quarter-century ago, a Senator from this state, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, wrote this: "of a sudden, the GOP has become a party of ideas." It was true then; and it remains true today. We are the party of ideas - and as Richard Weaver wrote, "ideas have consequences." With that in mind, here are some of the ideas I believe will lead to the further realignment of American politics. We are seizing the Mantle of Idealism. As all of you know, President Bush is making a powerful case for spreading human liberty and defending human dignity. This was once largely the preserve of liberalism - but Ronald Reagan changed all that. It was President Reagan, you'll recall, who said the policy of the United States was not simply to contain Soviet Communism, but to transcend it. And we would, he argued, was because of the power of liberty. President Bush has built on those beliefs - and he is committed to something no past President has ever attempted: spreading liberty to the broader Middle East. President Bush's eventual goal is the triumph of freedom and the end of tyranny in our world. This vision, which will require the concentrated work of generations, is consistent with the deep idealism of the American people - and it is an idealism whose importance is being confirmed by history and events. During the last four decades we have witnessed the most spectacular growth of liberty in history. More nations are free today than ever before. Consider that in a four month period - from the end of 2004 to early 2005 -- we saw elections take place in Afghanistan, the Ukraine, among the Palestinians, and in Iraq. In the span of 113 days, more than 100 million people, living on two continents, have cast free votes in nations that had never known democracy. More than half of these voters are people of the Muslim faith who live in the broader Middle East. And since those elections we have seen what scholars refer to as "The Arab Spring" in Lebanon and Egypt and elsewhere. We are seeing unprecedented progress when it comes to spreading liberty in the Middle East. This confidence in the power of liberty is anchored in the words of the Declaration of Independence; the arguments of President Lincoln; and the policies of President Reagan and President Bush. In his second Inaugural Address, President Bush stated it well: "Americans, of all people, should never be surprised by the power of our ideals. Eventually, the call of freedom comes to every mind and every soul. We do not accept the existence of permanent tyranny because we do not accept the possibility of permanent slavery. Liberty will come to those who love it." * * * * Second, our movement's growth has made us Agents of Reform. Edmund Burke, one of the most important figures in the history of conservatism, was known as an advocate of reform. He understood the essence of conservatism is applying timeless principles to changing circumstances, which is one of the keys to political success. President Bush has pointed out that many of our most fundamental systems - the tax code, health coverage, pension plans, legal systems, public education, worker training among them - were created for the world of yesterday, not tomorrow. He is committed to reforming great institutions to serve the needs of our time. As the President has said, to give every American a stake in the promise and future of our country, we will bring the highest standards to our schools. We will build an ownership society by expanding the ownership of homes and businesses, retirement savings and health insurance, and preparing Americans for the challenges of life in a free society. We are putting government on the side of reform and progress, modernization and greater freedom, more personal choice and greater prosperity. The great goal of modern-day conservatism is to make our society more prosperous and more just. * * * * Third, we are defending Time-Honored Values. Conservatives have long known that political liberty depends on a healthy social and moral order. And so the President is committed to strengthening society's key institutions - families, schools, communities, and protecting those mediating structures so important to our freedom, like our churches, neighborhood and private groups - the institutions that inculcate virtues, shape character, and provide the young with moral education. That is why President Bush supports welfare reform that strengthens family and requires work. That is why he has supported adoption and responsible fatherhood initiatives. That is why he is building a culture of life and upholding the dignity of the human person - and seeks a world in which every child is welcomed in life and protected in law. And that is why he has provided unprecedented support for religious charities that provide a safety net of mercy and compassion. It is why President Bush supports the protection of traditional marriage against activist judges; why he signed legislation that insists on testing, high standards, and accountability in our schools; and why he he has fostered a culture of service and citizenship. President Bush supports these things because he believes they will lead to a society that is more compassionate and decent, stronger and better. We are attempting to spread liberty abroad - and we must show that we are worthy of liberty at home. * * * * Let me now say a few words about the state of liberalism. Perhaps the place to begin is with this stinging indictment: "Liberalism is at greater risk now than at any time in recent American history. The risk is of political marginality, even irrelevance.… [L]iberalism risks getting defined, as conservatism once was, entirely in negative terms." These are not the words of William F. Buckley, Jr. or Sean Hannity; they are the words of Paul Starr, co-editor of The American Prospect, a leading liberal publication. There is much merit in what Mr. Starr writes - though he and I fundamentally disagree as to why liberalism is edging toward irrelevance. I believe the reason can be seen when comparing conservatism with liberalism. Conservatives believe in lower taxes; liberals believe in higher taxes. We want few regulations; they want more. Conservatives measure the effectiveness of government programs by results; liberals measure the effectiveness of government programs by inputs. We believe in curbing the size of government; they believe in expanding the size of government. Conservatives believe in making America a less litigious society; liberals believe in making America a more litigious society. We believe in accountability and parental choice in education; they don't. Conservatives believe in advancing what Pope John Paul II called a "culture of life"; liberals believe there is an absolute unlimited right to abortion. But perhaps the most important difference between conservatives and liberals can be found in the area of national security. Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers. In the wake of 9/11, conservatives believed it was time to unleash the might and power of the United States military against the Taliban; in the wake of 9/11, liberals believed it was time to… submit a petition. I am not joking. Submitting a petition is precisely what Moveon.org did. It was a petition imploring the powers that be" to "use moderation and restraint in responding to the… terrorist attacks against the United States." I don't know about you, but moderation and restraint is not what I felt as I watched the Twin Towers crumble to the earth; a side of the Pentagon destroyed; and almost 3,000 of our fellow citizens perish in flames and rubble. Moderation and restraint is not what I felt - and moderation and restraint is not what was called for. It was a moment to summon our national will - and to brandish steel. MoveOn.Org, Michael Moore and Howard Dean may not have agreed with this, but the American people did. Conservatives saw what happened to us on 9/11 and said: we will defeat our enemies. Liberals saw what happened to us and said: we must understand our enemies. Conservatives see the United States as a great nation engaged in a noble cause; liberals see the United States and they see … Nazi concentration camps, Soviet gulags, and the killing fields of Cambodia. Has there been a more revealing moment this year than when Democratic Senator Richard Durbin, speaking on the Senate floor, compared what Americans had done to prisoners in our control at Guantanamo Bay with what was done by Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot - three of the most brutal and malevolent figures in the 20th century? Let me put this in fairly simple terms: Al Jazeera now broadcasts to the region the words of Senator Durbin, certainly putting America's men and women in uniform in greater danger. No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals. * * * * Let me end where I began. Forty years ago, Lyndon Baines Johnson, a proud liberal, won the Presidency in a landslide. His party held 68 Senate seats; 295 House seats; and 33 governorships. In 2004 George W. Bush, a proud conservative, won the Presidency for the second time, receiving the most votes in American history. His party has now won seven of the last 10 Presidential elections. Republicans hold 55 Senate seats; 232 House seats; and 28 governorships. These facts underscore how much progress has been made in four decades. It has been a remarkable rise. But it is also a cautionary tale of what happens to a dominant party - in this case, the Democrat Party -- when its thinking becomes ossified; when its energy begins to drain; when an entitlement mentality takes over; and when political power becomes an end in itself rather than a means to achieve the common good. We need to learn from our successes - and from the failures of the other side and ourselves. As the governing movement in America, conservatives cannot grow tired or timid. We have been given the opportunity to govern; now we have to show we deserve the trust of our fellow citizens. At one time the conservative movement was largely a reactionary political party - and there was a sense of pessimism even among many of its ardent champions. You'll recall that Whittaker Chambers, who gave up his affiliation with Communism to join the West in its struggle for freedom, said he believed he was joining the losing side. For decades, liberals were setting the agenda, the pace of change, and the visionary goals. Conservatives were simply reacting to them. But times change, often for the better - and this President and today's conservative movement are shaping history, not trying to stop it. Together we are articulating a compelling vision of a better world -- and I am grateful to all of you who are making that better world a reality. Thank you very much for your attention, for your support of this President, and above all, for your devotion to this country. Source
